How to prepare for an AI voice interview

An AI interview is still a conversation about your experience and the role. Prepare examples you can explain clearly, understand the session instructions, and check the device you will use before you join.

Read the position and choose relevant examples

Identify the responsibilities and skills in the job description. For each important area, choose a real example of something you did. Explain the situation, your own actions, the reasons for those actions, and the outcome. If the work was a team effort, be clear about your contribution.

You do not need to memorize a speech. A short outline is better practice: what was difficult, what you tried, what changed, and what you learned. Be ready to explain a trade-off or a mistake as well as a successful result.

Check your microphone, browser, and connection

Open the invitation instructions before the scheduled session. Use a supported browser and a device with the required microphone and camera. Check your audio, reduce avoidable background noise, and make sure the connection is stable. Some sessions may request camera or screen-sharing permissions; read the instructions for your specific invitation.

Read the consent and recording information before starting. If you need an accommodation, have a privacy question, or cannot use the requested setup, contact the hiring company. The interviewer cannot resolve every arrangement during the call.

Answer the question first, then give the detail

Start with the main point so the interviewer can follow your answer. Add a specific example and explain why you made the choices you did. When you do not know something, say so and describe how you would investigate it rather than inventing an answer.

If the question is unclear, ask for clarification. If the interviewer follows up, treat it as a chance to make your reasoning more concrete. Adaptive questions can explore details that were missing from the first answer; they are not a cue to guess a hidden script.

Practice on a role, then review what was unclear

ScreenOps offers a self-serve applicant portal with practice interviews. Sign in to explore the practice options available to your account. Access and credit requirements depend on your account; this guide does not promise a free interview or an interview for every external job.

After a practice session, use the available feedback to choose one thing to improve: a more precise example, a clearer explanation of your contribution, or a better account of the result. Practice can make your communication clearer, but it does not guarantee a hiring outcome.

Before you join

Keep the hiring company’s contact information available in case you have a technical problem. Follow the session rules for notes, outside help, and recording.

  • Read the role and session instructions.
  • Prepare examples based on work you actually did.
  • Test your microphone and any requested permissions.
  • Ask the hiring company about accessibility or consent questions beforehand.
